Import your customers
Bring your customer list from Shopify, WooCommerce or a spreadsheet into Torva, keeping marketing consent only where your export shows it, without emailing anyone.

What this does
Adds the customers from your old platform to Customers, so your records, segments and future emails start from the people who already buy from you.
It reads a Shopify customer export (the current or the older format), a WooCommerce customer download, or any CSV with an email column.
Before you start
- Owner or admin access.
- The CSV from your old platform. In Shopify that is Customers → Export; in WooCommerce, the customers download from Analytics or a customer export plugin.
Steps
- Open Customers and select Import customers.
- Choose the CSV file.
- Read the preview: who is new, who is already in Torva, duplicate rows merged into one, which column marketing consent was read from, and every row that was skipped with the line it was on (for example, an address that is not an email).
- Select Import. Large files go in batches of a thousand; leave the page open until it says it is done.
What happens next
Each imported customer is tagged imported. A name already in Torva is never overwritten, and phone numbers and addresses from the export are shown on the customer's page.
Nobody is emailed by an import, and imported customers do not start the welcome series.
Marketing consent is carried over only where your export shows an explicit yes in an email-consent column. Everyone else is a customer you can see but not send marketing to. An address that has unsubscribed or been suppressed stays that way, whatever the file says. SMS consent is not imported.
Common problems
Everyone came in without consent. Your export had no email-consent column, or it was empty. Torva never assumes consent; customers can opt in at their next checkout or from your footer signup.
Some rows were skipped. The preview names each line and why. Fix those rows in the spreadsheet and import it again — customers already imported are recognised and not duplicated.
Past orders are not showing. Order history is not imported. A customer's orders in Torva start with their first Torva order.
Still stuck?
Ask Torva from inside your account. It knows everything in this article and can also see what your own store is currently doing, so it can answer for your situation rather than in general.
