What this does
Gives your customers a signed-in area on your own store where they can look up their orders instead of emailing you to ask where one is.
They sign in with a code you email them — there is no password to forget, and guest checkout still works for everyone who does not want an account. Apple and Google sign-in can be offered as well.
An account only ever shows the orders placed with that exact verified email address. That rule is Torva's and not a setting, which is what stops anyone from reading someone else's purchase history by typing their address.
Before you start
Customer accounts are on Growth and Command.
Your store needs a sending address that works, because the sign-in code arrives by email — Settings → Email & notifications.
Steps
- Open Settings → Customers & accounts.
- Turn accounts on.
- Choose what the account area shows. Each one is enforced by the server, not just hidden: an account that may not show order history is one that is never sent it. - Order history — past orders, and each order's items, totals and delivery address. - Tracking — the carrier status on those orders. - Edit profile — whether the customer can change their own name. With it off, their details are shown but read-only. - Saved addresses — the addresses from their last ten orders, shown read-only as a record of where things went. - Marketing preferences — a button to start or stop marketing email. Order confirmations and delivery updates are sent either way.
- Optionally switch on Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. Torva holds those credentials for the whole platform, so you never handle a key.
- Decide whether to offer an account after purchase, which invites the customer to keep the order they just placed.
- Style the account area in Storefront → Studio like any other page. It takes your logo, colour, font and corner radius.
What happens next
The account area lives on your own domain at /account, so a customer never leaves your store to use it.
Signing in is: enter an email, receive a code, enter the code. Their email address is what connects orders to the account, so it cannot be changed from inside the account — changing a name leaves past orders exactly as they were placed.
The marketing button writes the same consent record the checkout tick and the footer signup write, so one customer has one answer across all three, and Customers shows it.
Turning accounts off later hides the area. Nothing is deleted, and turning it back on restores what each customer could see.
Common problems
The code email never arrives. It goes out on your store's sending address, so it fails exactly when your other store email fails. Check Settings → Email & notifications first, then the customer's spam folder.
A customer says an old order is missing. Orders attach to an account by the address that placed them. An order placed as a guest with a different address belongs to that address; look it up in Customers and tell them which one to sign in with.
Sign in with Apple or Google will not switch on. It is offered only where Torva has that provider configured; the setting says so rather than showing a button that cannot finish.
Someone with a Hide My Email relay address. That relay is a real address and works normally. It is the address their orders attach to, so it is the one they must keep using at checkout.
A customer wants their data or wants it deleted. That is a privacy request and is handled outside the account area — see Privacy requests.
Still stuck?
Ask Torva from inside your account. It knows everything in this article and can also see what your own store is currently doing, so it can answer for your situation rather than in general.
