What it means for a research store
Zelle moves money between US bank accounts within minutes, and availability for business accounts depends on the merchant’s bank. There is no public checkout API for small merchants, so stores that accept Zelle typically show payment instructions (recipient name, email or phone, a QR code and an order reference) and mark the order paid after they see the transfer arrive.
Two properties shape how to use it. Transfers are generally not reversible like card payments, which reduces chargeback exposure, and consumer protections for authorised payments are limited, so customers may be cautious with a new store. Banks also apply their own limits and terms, and some restrict business use.
The operational risk is reconciliation. Without a reference, matching a transfer to an order is slow and error-prone. Require the order number in the memo, hold orders as awaiting payment, set a clear deadline and cancel unpaid orders automatically or on a schedule.
How Torva OS handles it
Torva OS lets a merchant offer Zelle, Cash App and Venmo at checkout with on-screen instructions and a QR code. Those orders wait as awaiting payment until the merchant confirms receipt in the Desk. See the manual payment order workflow.
