GLOSSARY · COMPLIANCE

What is an acceptable use policy (AUP)?

An acceptable use policy (AUP) is the part of a platform’s or payment provider’s terms that lists the products, businesses and practices it will not support or will support only after review.

What it means for a research store

Every commerce platform, payment processor, email provider and ad network has one. Processors typically split theirs into prohibited businesses, which they will not serve, and restricted businesses, which need additional review or approval. Categories such as pharmaceuticals, products marketed with health claims and incorrectly labelled research chemicals commonly appear on these lists; Stripe’s restricted businesses page is a public example.

For a research-supply store, the AUPs that matter are the ones for every service in the chain: the store platform, the card processor, pay-by-app services, the email sender, the shipping carrier and each ad platform. A store removed by its platform loses its website, not only its payments, so the platform’s own AUP is as important as the processor’s.

Read the current versions before building, save a dated copy, and re-read them when a provider announces changes. Policies change without much notice, and enforcement often follows volume, so a store that was accepted at launch can be reviewed later. This is general information, not legal advice.

How Torva OS handles it

Torva OS is built for research-supply and research peptide brands. Merchants connect their own processor, so the processor’s AUP still applies; Torva does not guarantee processor approval.
