Create a discount code

What this does

Creates a code a customer enters at checkout to get money off.

Before you start

Decide what it takes off, who may use it, and when it stops working.

Steps

1. Open Discounts and select New discount.
2. Enter the code. Short and memorable beats clever.
3. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount.
4. Set an expiry, and a usage limit if you want one.
5. Save.

What happens next

The code works at checkout immediately. Discounts are applied to the order subtotal and shown on the order, so you can always see what a customer actually paid and why.

Common problems

A customer says the code does not work. Check its expiry, its usage limit, and that it has not already been used by that customer if you limited it per person.

Two codes at once. Only one discount applies to an order.

My margin looks wrong on discounted orders. The discount comes off before tax is worked out, and is shared across taxable lines in proportion. The order shows the breakdown.
