What is structured data (JSON-LD)?

Structured data is machine-readable information about a page, most often written as schema.org vocabulary in a JSON-LD script, that tells search engines and assistants exactly what the page describes.

What it means for a research store

A product page can declare its name, image, SKU, price, currency and availability; an article its headline, author and dates; an organisation its name, logo, address and contact point. Search engines use this to understand pages and may show rich results, and assistants use it to extract facts reliably.

The rule that matters most: structured data must match what a visitor sees. A price in JSON-LD that differs from the visible price, or reviews that are not on the page, can lead to manual actions and erode trust. Generate it from the same data as the page.

For research-supply stores, keep product structured data to factual properties and avoid health-related types or claims. Validate with Google’s Rich Results Test and the schema.org validator after template changes.
