What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed convention for a markdown file at a website’s root (/llms.txt) that gives large language models a concise, link-rich summary of the site and points to fuller text.

What it means for a research store

The proposal, published at llmstxt.org, specifies a markdown file that starts with an H1 name, a short blockquote summary, optional detail and then sections of links with one-line descriptions. A companion file, often /llms-full.txt, can carry the full text of key pages in one document.

The file is aimed at assistants and tools that fetch a site at answer time. It does not replace a sitemap, robots.txt or good HTML, and there is no guarantee any particular assistant reads it. Its value is clarity: stating what the organisation is, what it is not, and where authoritative pages live, in a format that is cheap to parse.

Keep it accurate and short, generate it from the same data as the site where possible so it does not drift, and avoid putting anything in it that is not also true on the public pages.

How Torva OS handles it

torvaos.com publishes /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt, generated from the same plan catalog and guides as the site.
