What is quantity pricing?

Quantity pricing lowers the unit price when a customer buys more of the same product, at defined thresholds such as 3, 5 or 10 units.

What it means for a research store

Research-supply catalogs sell many single-unit items, so multi-unit price breaks are a common way to raise average order value. A break can be a lower unit price at a threshold, a fixed pack price or a percentage off. The storefront, cart and checkout must all agree on the price at each quantity.

Test at the boundaries: one below the threshold, exactly at it and one above. Check what happens when a discount code is combined with a price break, and whether affiliate commission is calculated before or after both.

A break is a margin decision. Model it with product cost, shipping, processing fees and any affiliate commission before publishing, using a tool such as the Torva quantity pricing economics guide.

How Torva OS handles it

Quantity pricing is built into every Torva OS plan, without a discount app, and the product page shows the unit price and merchandise total at each break.
