GLOSSARY · MARKETING AND GROWTH

What is an abandoned checkout?

An abandoned checkout is a checkout a shopper started, usually entering an email address, but did not complete, and abandoned-checkout emails are automated reminders sent to recover it.

What it means for a research store

Once a shopper has entered an email address at checkout, the store can follow up if the order is not completed. A typical sequence sends a first reminder within a few hours, a second a day later and sometimes a third, stopping immediately when the shopper completes the order.

Useful reminders show exactly what was left (products, variants, quantities), link straight back to the saved checkout and answer the likely hesitation: shipping cost and timing, payment options, documentation. Discounts in reminders train customers to abandon on purpose, so many stores hold them back or reserve them for the last message.

Consent and caps matter. Recovery emails are transactional-adjacent but still need an unsubscribe route, must respect any suppression list, and should not be layered on top of other campaign emails to the same person on the same day.

How Torva OS handles it

On Growth and Command, Torva OS includes an abandoned-checkout sequence among its email automations, alongside a first-customer welcome and post-purchase follow-up. See abandoned checkout and receipt emails.
