What is a pick list?

A pick list is a document that tells whoever packs orders which items, in what quantities, to take from stock for a set of orders, usually grouped to minimise walking and mistakes.

What it means for a research store

For a batch of orders, a pick list totals each product and variant across the batch (for example, 14 units of one SKU, 6 of another), so the packer pulls stock once instead of order by order. A packing list, by contrast, is per order: it goes in or on the parcel and lists what that customer should receive.

Good pick lists sort by storage location, show the variant and the lot where it matters, and flag items with special handling such as cold chain packing. After picking, counts should reconcile with inventory; a discrepancy is caught on the shelf, not by a customer.

Pick lists pair with batch shipping: pick for the batch, pack each order against its packing list, then print all labels at once.

How Torva OS handles it

Torva OS generates a pick list and a shipping list (printable or CSV) for a batch of paid orders, then buys 4×6 labels in bulk from the merchant’s EasyPost account. See ship a batch.
