What it means for a research store
The denominator decides what the number means. Sessions, unique visitors and product-page visitors each give a different conversion rate, and ad platforms use their own definitions. State which one you use and keep it constant.
For research-supply stores, a few factors distort conversion rate. A research-use gate that analytics counts as a bounce, bot traffic, ad clicks that never load the page and visitors who buy later on another device all push the measured rate down without reflecting the real shopping experience. Filter known bots and check that the gate does not fire misleading events.
Break the rate into steps (product view, add to cart, checkout started, order placed) to find where shoppers leave. The step with the biggest drop is usually the most valuable one to fix.
