Forward payment emails so Torva can match them to orders
Forward the payment emails your apps and bank send you to your store's own address, and Torva puts each one beside the waiting order with the same amount.

What this does
Zelle, Cash App and Venmo already email you when money lands. Forward those emails to your store's own payment address and Torva reads each one: the amount, which app, and who sent it. When exactly one order is waiting for that amount, the email shows up beside it under Orders → Waiting for payment, so you can confirm with a glance.
Torva never marks an order paid from an email. An email saying money arrived is not money arriving, and anyone can send an email. You still check the money is there and select Mark paid.
Before you start
- Owner or admin permissions.
- Zelle, Cash App or Venmo switched on in Settings → Payments.
- Access to the email account those apps and your bank send payment emails to.
Steps
- Open Settings → Payments and find Payment emails from Zelle, Cash App and Venmo. Select Copy next to your address. It looks like
pay+your-store-1a2b@…. If the section says Coming soon, payment-email matching is not switched on for your Torva yet, and nothing below applies. - Add that address as a forwarding address in your email: - Gmail: Settings → See all settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP → Add a forwarding address. Gmail emails a confirmation code to the address. It arrives in Support in your Torva Desk: open it, then enter the code in Gmail. Leave "Disable forwarding" selected there; the filter in the next step does the forwarding. - Outlook / Microsoft 365: Settings → Mail → Rules → Add new rule. You set the forward in the rule itself (next step). Some work accounts block forwarding outside the company; ask whoever runs your email. - Zoho Mail: Settings → Mail Forwarding → add the address. Zoho sends a verification code, which arrives in Support in your Desk. - Apple iCloud Mail: iCloud forwards everything or nothing, so it cannot forward only payment emails. Use a Gmail or Outlook account for payment notifications instead.
- Forward only payment emails, not your whole inbox. Make a filter (Gmail: Create a filter; Outlook: the rule's condition) that matches: - Venmo: emails from Venmo, for example
venmo@venmo.com, with "paid you" in the subject. - Cash App: emails from Cash App, for examplecash@square.com, with "sent you" in the subject. - Zelle: Zelle payments are announced by your bank, not by Zelle. Match your bank's alert sender and the word "Zelle". Check a recent Zelle alert for the exact sender, since every bank uses its own. Then choose Forward it to your payment address. Check the sender on one of your own recent payment emails before you save the filter. Apps change their addresses. - Test it: forward one recent payment email by hand. It appears under Recent payment emails in Settings → Payments within a minute or two.
- When an order is waiting for the same amount, Orders → Waiting for payment shows the email beside it. Check the money in the app or your bank, then select Mark paid.
What happens next
Each forwarded email is read once. What Torva keeps from it is the amount, the app, the sender's name and any confirmation code, not the whole email. It is attached to a waiting order only when that is the one match: the same amount, the same app the customer chose, and no other order waiting for the same figure. Two orders for $54.00 look the same by amount, so Torva says there is more than one and lets you decide.
Verified sender means the email came from the app's own domain and passed DMARC (or a DKIM signature from that domain) when Torva received it. Unverified means Torva could not prove that: a bank's Zelle alert, an email you forwarded by hand, or one that failed authentication. Either way it is an email, not money. Neither badge ever marks an order paid.
Anything sent to your payment address that is not a payment email, like a forwarding confirmation code, lands in Support instead of being thrown away.
Common problems
Nothing shows up after I forward an email. Check the amount is written in the email as dollars and cents, like $54.00, and that it names Zelle, Cash App or Venmo. Refunds, requests and "you sent" emails are ignored on purpose.
Every Zelle email says Unverified. That is expected. Zelle payments are announced by your bank, and Torva only calls an email verified when it comes from the app's own domain. Check your bank before you mark the order paid.
The email arrived but is not beside the order. More than one order is waiting for that amount, the customer chose a different app at checkout, or the email arrived more than 15 minutes before the order was placed. Confirm it in Orders as usual.
I never got Gmail's confirmation code. Look in Support in your Desk. If it is not there, check the address was copied exactly, including the part after pay+.
Still stuck?
Ask Torva from inside your account. It knows everything in this article and can also see what your own store is currently doing, so it can answer for your situation rather than in general.
